Nutrition Planning and Counselling

Focusing on your nutrition with a trained professional can help improve your relationship with food and your body, can help you to meet your health goals, and can make sure you’re doing these things in a way that is both sustainable and safe for you.

What is Nutrition Planning?

Nutrition Planning is also known as Meal Planning, and refers to making a plan for what and when to eat to ensure you’re meeting your body’s needs in a way that also meets your health goals. Specific planning around your nutrition can help to manage chronic illnesses, make sure you’re getting the right mix of vitamins and nutrients in your diet, support a healthy weight, and can even help with issues like nutrition budgeting and family meal planning. A Registered Dietitian can support you to make a structured daily plan to proactively support you to meet your goals.

What is Nutrition Counselling?

Nutrition Counselling involves meeting with a Registered Dietitian to receive guidance and support around your food choices and habits. It includes a history taking and assessment where your practitioner will learn about your food patterns and behaviours, your medical and health history, your lifestyle, and your goals. From there they will make a personalized plan with you to build your relationship with food and your body to help make or maintain healthy dietary habits. This can include receiving guidance around nutrition planning and portion sizes, promoting intuitive eating, and providing encouragement and support with motivation to remain consistent.

Who Can Benefit From Nutrition Counselling?

The short answer is that anyone can benefit from support around nutrition planning and counselling. Some of the people who reach out most often are:

  • People with chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure

  • Individuals who are perinatal or pregnant

  • People with food intolerances or allergies

Working with a Practitioner

Our office has two Registered Dietitians, who you can view below. Once your practitioner has met with you and completed their assessment they will make a plan with you to address goals and timelines. Working with a practitioner is most effective when there is a strong connection between the practitioner and client, and because of that we encourage you to meet for consults with as many practitioners as you need to ensure the best fit.
