About Aleena

Pronouns: She / Her

Hello! I am a Pakistani who moved to Canada in 2016. I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, and graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Science (Major in Psychology, and Criminology and Sociolegal Studies; Minor in Sociology). I have a background in Trauma and Crisis Management, where I provided psychoeducation and supportive counselling to, and led workshops for, those who have experienced trauma and/or dealt with suicidality, here in Canada and in Pakistan.

I am passionate about working with children, adolescents and adults to support them in their journey towards improved wellbeing, mental and emotional growth, and self-discovery. I have a special interest in trauma and how it manifests in people from diverse backgrounds due to the influence of cultural values, and adopt a trauma-informed approach. I draw from different therapeutic frameworks in my practice, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), psychodynamic therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and so on, depending on the unique needs and goals of the client.

My educational, practical, and lived experiences of trauma and mental health have taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment approach. I believe we are the experts in our own experiences and so I enjoy collaborating with clients to find an evidence-based treatment approach that works best for them. As a woman of colour, I am deeply aware of my own intersectionality and how it relates to others. I take an anti-oppressive and anti-racist approach, and welcome clients from all walks of life.

Aleena provides support in English, Urdu, Hindi and Sindhi. She can provide Islam-informed support when requested.
